About Me
Traveling For Business

There are a lot of people who only travel for pleasure, but I mainly travel for work purposes. I work for a large company that sends me all over the globe to promote our products, and it has been difficult to learn how to stay comfortable on the road. I work hard to do everything I can to prepare for my trips, but some hotels make it difficult to stay comfortable during the journey. This blog is completely dedicated to traveling for business and learning how to be a tourist--even when you aren't in a city simply to enjoy your free time.

Where To Next? Corporate Short-Term Complexes Vs. Home-Sharing Services

Finding short-term housing has never been easier, with many corporate short-term apartment complexes springing up and home-sharing operations becoming more popular. However, the two options are very different, and which one you choose can have a big impact on your day-to-day life. The real question is, what do you want to get out of the living experience? Comparing the two before making reservations is essential.

Independence and Space

Corporate short-term rentals are pretty much the same as regular apartments; you just have a furnished place and a lease that's for a shorter term. The apartment is yours to live in for as long as the contract runs. In a home-sharing operation, you could be renting just a room, and the bathroom could be shared with several other people. In fact, the home could be hosting a lot of travelers. You should be able to see this on the reservation site, but if you're making last-minute arrangements, you might not have much of a choice. If you really want your own place, a corporate complex is going to offer more options.

Crowds and Noise

The noise level in a home-sharing operation is going to vary widely depending on the house rules and the neighborhood in general. You'll be in a regular house or apartment, subject to whatever noise is usual in that area. And remember, what counts as noise is highly subjective, and you'll have to trust that your host has the same concept of noise that you do.

In a corporate complex, you're going to have neighbors, of course, but the noise level should be controlled by complex policies. The management wants tenants to enjoy their stay, and the management should do what they can to keep the complex relatively serene.

Problems and Disputes

Filing a complaint or disputing a charge on a bill can be difficult with home-sharing operations. You have to have conditions spelled out in writing in order to make the host abide by them. For example, if you can show in your messages to the host that you had asked about the place being quiet, and the host sent a message saying it was, and then it turned out the neighbors were having a huge party when you were trying to sleep, the home-sharing service could help you find a new place and stop the noisy place from charging you. But if you did not ask about noise and no one mentioned it, the home-sharing service might not be willing to help you.

But in a corporate complex, there should be onsite management and security who can help you immediately if something is wrong. Security can come over and hear the noise, see the mess, or observe another problem that may be occurring and stop the issue right there.

Legal Issues and Allowances

Corporate complexes are actual apartment complexes; there's no argument about their legal standing. That's not the case for home-sharing services where the host could be violating a local, HOA, or apartment complex prohibition against home-sharing or subletting. You could find yourself face to face with an angry landlord demanding you leave. If you want to be certain that you'll be able to stay for the time you've reserved, a corporate complex is best.

Try contacting corportate short-term rental complexes (like Corporate Habitat) as soon as possible, because they do fill up quickly. The staff will be able to give you details about leases, furniture rental, and other amenities.
