Traveling For Business

There are a lot of people who only travel for pleasure, but I mainly travel for work purposes. I work for a large company that sends me all over the globe to promote our products, and it has been difficult to learn how to stay comfortable on the road. I work hard to do everything I can to prepare for my trips, but some hotels make it difficult to stay comfortable during the journey. This blog is completely dedicated to traveling for business and learning how to be a tourist--even when you aren't in a city simply to enjoy your free time.

Tips For Being Environmentally Friendly During Your Hotel Stay

More and more hotels today are making efforts to be environmentally friendly, and many brands will detail these steps that are taken on their websites. Whether you stay at a hotel that markets is environmentally friendly approach — perhaps using all LED lights throughout the property — or not, you should do your part for the good of the environment during your stay. There are a number of simple, yet important things that the average hotel guest can do to avoid putting an unnecessary strain on the environment. Here are some tips for you to follow during your next hotel visit.

Turn Out The Lights When You Leave The Room

It might sound like a simple thing, but many hotel guests are careless when it comes to managing the lights in their room. You should always treat the lights in your hotel room like the lights in your home, and shut them off when you don't need them. Some hotels leave a light on in the room when you check in; this is meant to be welcoming, and you shouldn't take it as a sign that the light should be left on. When you're in the room during the daytime, you can also consider turning the lights off and opening the drapes to light the room naturally.

Manage Your Towels Correctly

A wide range of hotel brands take measures to avoid doing more laundry than necessary, given the environmental toll of running commercial washing machines and dryers. You don't need to use a different face cloth, hand towel and body towel for each day of your stay. The simple way to avoid having these items laundered when the housekeeper visits your room is to hang them back up after use; this is the universally accepted sign that you wish to continue to use them for at least another day.

Heat Or Cool The Room Moderately

It might feel tempting to crank up the air conditioner or heater when you arrive in your hotel room — and, of course, it's well within your right to do so. But, if you want to be as friendly as possible to the environment in this regard, there are a few things you can do. You likely don't need the room as cold as the thermostat will go; if you're hot, take a cool shower, turn the temperature down to a moderate level and wear light clothing, for example. Additionally, set the room to a moderate temperature before you leave for the day; there's no point in the room being freezing cold or toasty warm when it's empty.
