Tired Of The Long Island Beach Scene? Hit Upstate NY And Relax In A Cabin

About Me
Traveling For Business

There are a lot of people who only travel for pleasure, but I mainly travel for work purposes. I work for a large company that sends me all over the globe to promote our products, and it has been difficult to learn how to stay comfortable on the road. I work hard to do everything I can to prepare for my trips, but some hotels make it difficult to stay comfortable during the journey. This blog is completely dedicated to traveling for business and learning how to be a tourist--even when you aren't in a city simply to enjoy your free time.

Tired Of The Long Island Beach Scene? Hit Upstate NY And Relax In A Cabin

If you're in New York City, and you're tired of the beach scene on the weekends and want something different for your end of summer vacation, then consider renting a cabin. You can find a nice cabin outside of the city. It's a lot more peaceful than the party atmosphere that you typically find at the beaches during the summer. Below are a few tips to help you decide what to look for and where to look.

Where To Look?

You should look across the Hudson River, particularly at the Hudson Valley region. This is a beautiful area that is close to the city, yet will have you feeling like you've been transported far away. Some of the nicer places to look for cabins include the Catskills region and Woodstock.

What Amenities Do You Want?

Make sure to decide beforehand what type of cabin experience you want. Do you want a really rustic log cabin, or is an eco-friendly cabin with a modernist inspired design more to your likening? You will find all sorts of cabins in the Hudson Valley. Some have been designed by famous NYC architects and look like they belong in modern architecture magazines, while others look like they could have been built by hunters rough cutting their own logs. Woodstock will have the most modern style cabins, as this is where many of the wealthy from Manhattan have their summer homes. The Catskills will have more rustic cabins.

Water: Pool, Lake, Or Pond?

Just because you're not going to the beach doesn't mean you don't get to enjoy the water. You can find a cabin with a backyard in-ground pool. These tend to be the more modern, fancy cabins. You can also find cabins with small ponds. Finally, you might prefer a cabin on a lake. If that's the case, look into Greenwood Lake. It's a huge lake in the Hudson Valley near Warwick. The lake is enormous and even has it's own sandy beach. You can swim, ride jet skis, or go sailing.

Hiking Your Thing?

If you want to hit the trails and get some hiking in, then think about renting a cabin near Bear Mountain. This is one of the Hudson Valley's best hiking spots. It's located near the town of Highlands and Stony Point, so either location will do. The mountain has paved roads which let you drive your car in and you can hike around the summit. This is cool for people who don't want to do a long, all-day hike to get to the top. There are also picnic areas and a lake to swim in.
